Seeking Course Equivalencies

If you would like to receive major or minor credit for courses taken abroad that are not on the pre-approved list, you should request departmental credit from the department’s study abroad approver and have them complete the OSA Course Equivalency Form. Form requirements are listed below.

Use this form only if you want a study abroad course “to count” towards a major/minor requirement.

Courses approved on this form can only count for one major, minor or certificate. Speak with your major/minor advisor if you want a particular course to count in more than one academic program (e.g., for both a major and a minor).

You are required to submit course syllabi as attachments to departmental approvers. Departmental approvers may also request copies of written assignments or other assessments.

Students requesting business credit through the A. B. Freeman School of Business should consult advisors in that office.

Core Curriculum or Service Learning Credit

You can find the list of pre-approved courses fulfilling Core requirements here. Even if the course is on this pre-approved list for core credit, you must submit a Core Curriculum Petition to ensure the Core credit is applied to your degree audit.

The deadlines for the Core Curriculum and service learning petitions are March 1 for fall semester study abroad and October 1 for spring semester study abroad.

Requesting Credit for NTC Core Curriculum

Step 1: Review the NTC Core Curriculum guidance for insight into how courses are evaluated so you can make more informed choices when considering which classes might be worth submitting for Core evaluation.

Step 2: If your course appears to comply with the NTC Core Curriculum Guidance, submit a Core Curriculum petition to have the course evaluated.

You may request a review of a course any time after you enrolled in the course, are on-site and have received a complete syllabus.

Service Learning Credit Approval

Students who have participated in service-learning courses through their Tulane-approved study abroad program can submit a petition via this form to fulfill the public service graduation requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students participating in study abroad during a leave of absence are not guaranteed Tulane credit. Instead, you must petition for course credits through the transfer credit process.

Transcripts from approved study abroad programs should be sent via email to crystal@tulane.edu  or to the attention of Joanie Vicknair at the following address:

Tulane University Center for Global Education
6901 Willow St, 2nd Floor
New Orleans, LA 70118 U.S.A.

The process to transfer credit from your study abroad program to your Tulane record may take up to four months, depending on the host institution. We prioritize the posting of grades and credits for students who have completed the program evaluation.

Grades students earn while on semester study abroad will appear on their Tulane transcript but will not be calculated into their cumulative GPA. (This policy does not apply to Tulane faculty-led summer programs.) Students should complete a program evaluation to receive their grades from abroad.
