The Global Observer Publication

The Global Observer is a student-led print and online publication sponsored by the NTC Center for Global Education. We are dedicated to exploring global issues and trends, providing a platform for Tulane students, alumni, faculty, and staff to share multicultural perspectives. Each issue centers around a specific theme, aiming to illustrate the similarities and differences across regions, geographies, and citizenships.

Our mission is to enhance cross-cultural awareness and showcase creativity from our community. The Global Observer was first published in Spring 2018 and, after a hiatus due to Covid-19, we are thrilled to announce our return with the Spring 2026 issue.

Call for Submissions: Spring 2026 Issue

Theme: Time Travel

How do we move through time as we move through place? From ancient traditions to imagined futures, our experiences abroad often make us feel like travelers through time as we cross histories, generations, and ways of seeing the world.

This issue of The Global Observer explores how cultures remember, adapt, and reimagine themselves across time. We invite essays, photography, poetry, art, and reflections that explore time as a global experience—how we inherit the past, live in the present, and dream the future.

Submissions welcome in all languages of study.

Deadline for Submissions: January 30, 2026

Consider the following prompts as inspiration:

How have you interacted with local history while abroad?

How did you encounter culture across time while abroad?

How do you as a study abroad student contribute to the “re-invention” of places across time?

What does “modernity” look like across cultures?

How has studying abroad and travel made you aware of different perceptions of time or place?

How are younger generations reimagining history and/or the future of where you studied abroad?

What can nostalgia, memory, or tradition teach us about change?
