How did studying abroad affect your academic and/or professional career?
Studying abroad affected my academic and professional career in such a beneficial way and enhanced my experience. It gave me a wider perspective and allowed me to learn more in the classroom about various European cultures that I would have never learned otherwise.
How did you explore your hobbies, interests, and passions abroad?
While in Barcelona I always made it a priority to sight see, go to coffee shops, restaurants and bakeries during my time here. I made sure to do the same in the other cities I would travel to during the weekend to check these off of my list.
Why would you recommend your respective abroad program or location?
Barcelona is a great place to study abroad. Proximity wise it is easy to travel on the weekends to other cities and countries due to its location. The weather does not get cold until December which is also a major benefit when you are trying to explore the city. CEA CAPA students only have class Monday through Thursday which allows you the opportunity to take advantage of the long weekend to travel to other locations. The staff was very responsive and willing to work with individuals when conflicts arose.
What should students consider when applying and preparing for their time abroad?
Students should consider what classes they can obtain for major credit to ensure they stay on track and meet requirements.
Did your identity impact your study abroad experience?
My identity allowed me to become more independent as I had to figure out things by myself as I was on my own. Being abroad also allowed me to grow and tackle real world situations.
Share a story about a time you experienced cultural immersion.
A time I experienced cultural immersion was when I was in different cities for the weekend and had to figure out public transportation. Many times it was difficult especially with the language barrier but being able to figure it out felt very rewarding.
