This webinar is intended for families of Newcomb-Tulane College (NTC) students approved for Fall 2023 and Academic Year 2023-2024 study abroad programs and will focus on the practical aspects of your NTC study abroad student’s journey. Where will they live? How much does it cost? How can you best support them through this life-changing journey? This webinar will feature seasoned staff from the NTC Office of Study Abroad who have lived and worked abroad in the past and have prepared your student for the future.

Virtual Predeparture Session: Living Like a Local (Open to ALL students)

The Living Like a Local pre-departure session starts you thinking about ways to make the most of your time abroad. Including but not limited to: housing options, getting around, immersing yourself in the local way life, and even dealing with cultural friction around your personal and perceived identities. Learn to adopt an anthropological lens no matter what you are studying while abroad – and get tips on how to be a good guest in your host country.

Virtual Predeparture Session: Intersectionality of Identities While Traveling (Open to ALL students)

What does it mean to be African American, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Latinx American, Native American, or mixed race, and how will that be seen when travelling and living abroad? How does this apply to your specific host country? In this workshop, we strive to provide POC students with tangible takeaways and tools to think about their identities in a new global and cultural context and deal with difficulties that may arise from their experiences abroad.

Summer FUNDING Week Kick Off Event!

The goal of Summer FUNDing Week is to share information on summer opportunities, specifically grant funding, available to undergraduate students at Tulane University. We hope students leave this workshop series with an enhanced knowledge of the opportunities (i.e., grant funding, internships, research) available to them and are able to apply to these opportunities. The Kick Off Event will include ice cream from Ice Cream 504 and a raffle for Apple AirPods.
