Meera Puthenmadom

Hi! I’m Meera, a senior at Tulane majoring in Public Health and Cell/Molecular Biology
with a Spanish minor. I studied abroad in Spring 2022 with SIT on an IHP multicountry
program studying health practices in India, South Africa, and Jordan. I took several
public health courses as well as a research methods/ethics capstone course. My
semester with IHP was one of the most exhilarating and academically engaging
experiences I’ve had. In India, we learned about medical pluralism, discussing
traditional and biomedical forms of healing with a Guni in rural Udaipur. In South Africa,
we explored themes of displacement and structural violence in Zwelethemba and Cape
Town. In Jordan, we visited various NGOs and learned about their efforts to support
refugees. I also studied abroad Summer of ‘21 and ‘22 with CIEE in Spain and
Argentina. In Barcelona, I interned at a hospital assisting with two public health
campaigns; ActToVax and Project FUTURO. In Buenos Aires, I took a public health
practicum course and shadowed local medical students in a teaching hospital. I’m
passionate about addressing global disparities in health and learning about the cultural
contextualization of wellness and well-being.

Elena Venegoni

Hi! My name is Elena and I’m a senior majoring in Linguistics and minoring in Urban Studies and Economics. I studied abroad Spring 2022 with the IFSA Mérida Universities Program in Mérida, Mexico. There I took classes in Spanish at two local universities, in addition to a class with my cohort of students from the U.S.. In my time in Mexico I played on a local Ultimate Frisbee team, went out dancing Salsa and Cumbia, swam at every cenote, waterfall, and beach I could, and travelled around the country, solo as well as with friends. I lived in a homestay with a family and was lucky enough to be integrated into their lives as well. As a peer advisor I am passionate about language acquisition, growing through immersion, and challenging learned ways of thinking.

Justin Reed

Hi! I’m Justin, a senior majoring in economics and finance with a minor in legal studies. Last fall, I studied abroad with CIEE in Amman, Jordan where I took classes in Arabic, political structures in the region, and civil society in Jordan. I also interned at an NGO in Amman doing project development and traveled around Jordan and some surrounding countries. This past summer, I was in São Paulo on Tulane’s Summer in Brazil program, studying Portuguese and contemporary issues in Brazil. Though the locations were very different, I loved both my experiences and hope to help students find programs that fit them best! Schedule

Miranda Hall

Hello! My name is Miranda. I’m a senior majoring in Sociology and Spanish with a minor in Urban Studies.  Last spring, I studied abroad with CIEE in Sevilla Spain through Tulane. I took a variety of literature and sociology classes while there. All of my classes were in Spanish, but I took them with a cohort of other American peers. I also lived with a host family in the center of the city. Outside of classes, I volunteered at a bilingual elementary school as a teacher's assistant. I took time to travel to other cities in southern Spain, like Cadiz and Granada. I also spent a lot of time exploring the historical city with my host mom and friends. I joined a local yoga group, explored parks outside the city, and participated in cultural events with my host family. I was really interested in studying abroad in Sevilla because of the completely unique experience, compared to the rest of Spain, with the diverse religious and cultural blend. As a peer advisor, I am passionate about helping students realize the amazing potential of studying abroad, especially in a different language. I believe study abroad can be a great way to steer away from a completely American-centric way of thinking, and want students to know that.
